Nephrology is a specialty of adult internal medicine and pediatric medicine that concerns the study of the kidneys, specifically normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy.
Nephrology focuses on ensuring the normal functioning of kidneys by treating conditions that hinder its processes. The various conditions that fall under the scope of nephrology include.
TPE is performed for patients with below Nephrological disorders for FASTER RECOVERY
RPGN
Rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN), a type of nephritic syndrome, is a pathologic diagnosis accompanied by extensive glomerular crescent formation (ie, >50% of sampled glomeruli contain crescents which can be seen in a biopsy specimen) that, if untreated, progresses to end-stage renal disease over weeks to months. It is relatively uncommon, affecting 10 to 15% of patients with glomerulonephritis, and occurs predominantly in patients 20 to 50 years.
IRGN
Infection-related glomerulonephritis (IRGN) is an example of immunological renal injury due to non-renal infections. With the changing face of IRGN over the years, renal biopsy definitely has an important role to play in differentiating this disease from the other masquerades and helps in prognosticating the long-term outcomes.
Pre and Post Transplant
ABO-I
ABO-I transplantation is a method of allocation in organ transplantation that permits more efficient use of available organs.
If recipients blood group and donors blood group are different then there is need for plasma exchange which will reduce the patients titre value ( normal titre value has to be 1:8 ).
In our machine ABO titre reduction is high.
DSA +ve
DONOR SPECIFIC ANTIBODY is an independent risk of antibody mediated rejection.
ANTI GBM
GBM – Glumerular Basement Membrane.
It is a part of the kidney that helps in filtering waste and extra fluid from the blood.
Anti GBM Disease is a disorder in which our bodies immune system creates antibodies that attack out kidneys and Lungs.
